Case study: Brixton Windmill

Background

Brixton Windmill is an iconic South London landmark and London’s last working windmill. The Friends of Brixton Windmill have an active membership and large number of volunteers for their many tours, events and school workshops. They also have a new education centre to further raise their profile.  We designed and built their new website which includes full ecommerce for their shops and events, membership integration and venue hire.

The Challenge

The Friends of Brixton Windmill were significantly expanding its facilities, to include a new purpose built education centre and needed a new website that reflected this huge investment and enabled the generation of revenue through ecommerce, venue hire, school bookings and membership sales.

What Did We Do

We audited all their existing content and migrated the best and developed new content where necessary. We designed and built a new website with CMS and trained a team from the Windmill so they can manage the site themselves. We moved their membership database online and converted their membership system to a web based one. We have built a booking system that can take bookings for school visits, venue hire, tour bookings and guided walks and an ecommerce system that sells merchandise, membership and tours. We have also moved their volunteer application process online.

Results

The website is now generating significant traffic and interest in the Brixton Windmill and tours and events that have been able to run in 2020 have quickly sold out.
